Ideas for Saint Valentine’s “Day” Month

Anyone who knows me well knows I absolutely love to plan parties, celebrations and to have fun with holidays. I am so happy to be able to share that passion with you through my new blog.

I am a huge fan of Valentine’s Day and month so the moment the calendar says we are farenough from the Christmas and Hanukkah holidays and close enough to February, I start putting up my pink and red twinkle lights, a festive heart door wreath and some Valentine-theme photo frames around the home (ones I received through the years).

I know the holiday has come and passed, but I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to share with you some of the things I did this past month. Since I was working on my new website and other busines endeavors, I had to keep things pretty simple this year. If I can, I usually like to  host some kind of Valentine-themed party in February. This year,  I decided to host a Thirty One purse party for my friend Dana who recently started her business. For treats on my food table, I made strawberry cake balls made of strawberry cake mix, strawberry whipped frosting and dipped in pink-tinted vanilla or chocolate coating with sprinkles.

I had these readily available to give out to guests who stopped by Valentine’s week and to put in a little package for my daughter’s fifth grade teacher. I used the bottom of a chocolate heart package and wrapped it up with a ribbon—I thought it turned out cute, see above.

For my Thirty One party, I tried Food Network star Sunny Anderson’s red velvet swirl brownie recipe and made it my own by leaving off the red dye and just putting ¼ cup of brownie on top—it was sooo good. For a fun cocktail to offer my guests, I found this yummy recipe out of the summer 2011 issue of BH&G’s Summer Dinners—Gather the Family. It is for Cosmo Fruit Punch—click here for the recipe.

Well these were some of the new things I did for Valentine’s Month 2013.  Hope you had a fun holiday however you celebrated. Check back for ideas for future holidays. Until next time…
