Summer brings long days, more adventures, and family trips—but let’s be honest, it also comes with packed schedules. Between work, travel, errands, and juggling every day, it’s easy to go weeks—or even months—without seeing the people we care about.
In my last post, I shared five connection invites to say yes to this summer. As a follow up, here are more options to stay connected in smaller, more doable ways.
Because sometimes, a micro connection is all it takes.
Micro connections are those short, meaningful moments we intentionally create to stay in touch. They don’t require elaborate planning or hours of free time, but they offer the emotional nourishment we often crave. This summer, I’m leaning into them more than ever.
Here’s what that looks like for me:
- An early morning walk with a new friend before work. It fits our schedules, and the day starts with a meaningful conversation.
- A last-minute happy hour in my backyard cabana with my tennis friends, who I haven’t seen in over a year. A quick text to see if everyone is free and each person brings something to share. I'm providing a pitcher of margs. Nothing fancy, just a casual chance to reconnect.
- Sending Instagram posts to my daughters tied to things we love individually. It’s just a small gesture, but it keeps us laughing and connected from wherever we are.
These small touchpoints keep relationships warm, even when life is moving fast.
Other micro connection ideas for your summer:
- Send a voice memo instead of a text—more personal, less effort.
- Share a podcast or article with someone who’d enjoy it, and follow up with a “What did you think?”
- Leave a sticky note with a kind word, inside joke, or funny sketch for your partner, child or roommate.
- Schedule a 10-minute FaceTime with a friend while folding laundry.
- Drop off an iced coffee to a nearby friend—no need to stay, just a surprise hello. and maybe a hug.
- Discuss shows you are watching separately with a sibling or friend, but sharing observations together
The key? Let go of perfection. Staying close doesn’t need a lot of time.
