The Freedom to Begin Again

As we celebrate Fourth of July today, we often think of freedom in terms of our country—our history, our independence, and the hard-won liberties we now celebrate with fireworks and family cookouts.

But this year, I want to encourage you to reflect on a different kind of freedom: the freedom to begin again.

Welcome back to my summer blog series based on my first book, Withering to Flourishing, 9 Ways to Bloom Again After the Storm,  I share one of the hardest seasons of my life—a time of major transition, emotional struggle, and unexpected loss. For a long time, I tried to cling to what used to be. I longed for the comfort of my old life, relationships, and routines.

But healing didn’t come from trying to force the past to fit my present.

It came when I gave myself the permission—and the freedom—to create a new vision for my life. That’s the kind of emotional independence I want to invite you to have this weekend.

Whether you’re moving through grief, divorce, career changes, or a shift in your family life, you have the right—and the strength—to start fresh.

Flourishing Friday: starting over

Think of yourself as a little seedling.

Just plant your new dream and watch yourself bloom and grow as you reach for the sun.

Ask yourself:

  • What part of your old life can you honor and release?
  • What would it look like to create a vision based on where you are now?
  • How can you connect with others to help you flourish as you start anew?

Because here’s the truth: We don’t flourish alone.

Even as we begin again, it’s our connections—with ourselves, our faith, our community—that help us grow. The journey from withering to flourishing isn’t just about personal resilience—it’s also about being happily connected to people who remind you that you’re not alone.

💫 If this message resonates with you, I invite you to explore more in my book Withering to Flourishing, available now on Amazon. It’s filled with real-life stories, honest reflections, and practical tools to help you rebuild your life with grace, strength, and joy.

🌱 Reconnect
🌱 Flourish
